Residential sprinkling of lawns and gardens uses 24% of the total water consumed in the Okanagan Valley each year. Much of that water is wasted. The waste includes excessive lawn and garden watering, watering pavement, leaking irrigation systems and poorly set automatic timers. We urge our residents to repair and maintain your irrigation systems, only water on your watering days and adjust your timers to match changing seasonal water requirements.

 SEKID has adopted the 2016 Kelowna Coordinated Drought Plan. All five water utilities in the City are using the same sprinkling regulations. For SEKID users there are important changes to the domestic sprinkling regulations under Normal conditions our residents need to know about. While the new regulations came into effect in 2016, a grace period was given in 2016 with full implementation of the new regulations in 2017. The regulations are now in full effect.

Watering Days

  • Odd numbered units or street addresses are allowed to water on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
  • Even numbered units or street addresses are allowed to water on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays;
  • No watering on Mondays.

Watering Times

  • For those residents with in-ground automatic sprinkling systems the hours are 12:00 AM. to 6:00 A.M.
  • For those watering by hose sprinkling times are from 6:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. and from 7:00 P.M. to midnight.
  • Hand watering by hose with a spring loaded nozzle and washing cars is permitted any day

New Lawns & Landscaping:

  • Follow supplier recommended watering schedule for up to 2 weeks after installation for sod, 6 weeks after installation for seeded lawns, then resume watering as per your watering days and times.

Staff will be monitoring compliance over the course of the summer and any property found watering outside of allowed times will be given a door tag providing the correct schedule. Enforcement will consist of two door tag warnings followed by disconnection of service to the property and a re-connection fee. Full implementation and enforcement of the new regulations comes into effect this year.
